King Charles looked impeccably stylish in a new portrait shared to celebrate Burns Night on Saturday.

The captivating image, taken by photographer Millie Pilkington last autumn, shows the monarch smiling beside a stack of leather-bound books in the ornate library of Balmoral Castle.

The Royal Family’s official social media accounts posted the photo with the caption: “Wishing those celebrating a very happy #BurnsNight tonight. The King in the Library at Balmoral Castle, taken by Millie Pilkington.”

Royal fans were quick to express their admiration in the comments section, with many praising the King’s choice of attire.

His traditional tartan kilt, made from the King Charles III tartan—a newly designed fabric introduced by the Scottish Tartans Authority in 2023 to commemorate the coronation—was a particularly popular topic. The tartan honors the King’s dedication to preserving the culture and traditions of Highland dress and Scottish tartans.

One follower wrote, “A wonderfully color-filled capture of His Majesty. Looking resplendent in tartan. My favorite portrait to date!!” Another commented, “Beautiful picture of His Majesty! And indeed, he looks very good in tartan,” while a third added, “I love the color coordination between the books, tie, and tartan.”
