King Charles, alongside foreign monarchs such as Denmark’s King Frederik and Spain’s King Felipe, paid tribute to Holocaust survivors during a solemn anniversary service in Poland.
World leaders and heads of state gathered at the former Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau to commemorate 80 years since its liberation.
At 76, King Charles has become the first British head of state to visit Auschwitz. Speaking at a recent Buckingham Palace reception, he shared: “I feel I must go for the 80th anniversary, [it’s] so important.”
Among those honoring the occasion in Poland were France’s President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Letizia, and Denmark’s King Frederik and Queen Mary.
