New revelations have surfaced in the High Court regarding the breakdown of Charles Spencer’s marriage to his wife of 13 years, Karen Spencer.
The brother of Princess Diana is currently in a legal battle involving his partner, Dr. Cat Jarman, who has multiple sclerosis (MS) and is suing Countess Spencer for allegedly disclosing her private diagnosis to various individuals, including staff at Althorp, teachers at Lady Charlotte Diana’s school, and one of Dr. Jarman’s colleagues.
Shocking Allegations
Karen Spencer’s defence papers reveal a contentious email she sent to Dr. Jarman in May, accusing her of being “unbelievably immoral” and “turning all of the children’s lives upside down.” The papers also claim that Karen learned of the end of her marriage through a text message from Charles on March 19.
The Countess alleges that upon comparing notes with Dr. Jarman’s husband, Tom Jarman, she discovered the affair had likely begun in 2021, though evidence suggests it was ongoing by late 2022 when Charles and Cat were together in Norfolk. Charles and Cat reportedly first met in 2021 when she visited Althorp House, the Spencer family’s ancestral home, for an archaeological project.
Karen Spencer’s Warning
In her email, Karen set clear boundaries, warning Dr. Jarman to stay away from Althorp: “Not sure what Charles has shared with you of this, but I won’t have you at Althorp while I still live here. That is a boundary I intend to hold. It’s not fair to me, our daughter, or to all the staff, who are already distraught at the news of our divorce though having to serve Charles’ long-term mistress. It’s just too much to ask.”
In November, Karen moved out of the family home and shared on Instagram that she had secured a temporary rental suitable for her extensive menagerie, including seven horses, two sheep, four cats, and a dog.
Charles Spencer’s Response
Charles, 60, has dismissed Karen’s claims as “absurd.” Speaking to the Daily Mail, he stated: “The notion that I would end my marriage by text is an absurd attempt to blacken my name. Karen ended the marriage, after endless threats to do so over the years, in early March. She asked me to confirm the end of the marriage in a text on 18 March, and my reply that day was a simple acceptance of her decision. I have those texts still and will share them in court when I clear my name.”
Dr. Jarman echoed his sentiments, expressing her dismay at what she called a “hideous and defamatory attack” by the Countess.
