Kaduna State: Thief Sentenced To Sweep Court Premises For 40 Days After Pleading Guilty To Stealing A Wallet

A 23-year-old man, Rabiu Gambo, has been sentenced by a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court to sweep the court premises for 40 days after pleading guilty to stealing a wallet.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel handed down the sentence after Gambo admitted to the theft.

According to the prosecution, Insp. Chidi Leo, on December 27, Yusuf Mai-shago from Ungwan Sarki, Kaduna, reported the theft to the Malali Police Station.

Leo explained that Gambo had stolen Mai-shago’s wallet, which contained N50,000, two ATM cards, and various identity cards. The crime was in violation of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

In his judgment, Magistrate Emmanuel noted that the court had been lenient with Gambo due to his guilty plea, which saved the court time.

He also warned Gambo to refrain from committing further crimes once he completed his punishment.

The magistrate emphasized that the sentence was intended to serve as a deterrent to others.
