A Shari’a court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna, has sentenced a 19-year-old man, Dahiru Usman, to one month in a correctional facility for assaulting a s*xworker, Zainab Idris.

Presiding Judge Malam Kabir Muhammad offered Usman the option of a N7,000 fine. Additionally, the court ordered him to pay N70,000 in compensation to Idris or serve a 12-month prison term.

According to prosecutor ASP Luka Sadau, Idris, a resident of Kigo Road, reported the incident to Sabon Gari Police Station on January 15. Sadau stated that Usman and Idris had agreed to meet at a hotel on Constitution Road for a service priced at N10,000. However, a dispute arose in the hotel room, during which Usman struck Idris on the head with a hammer, causing injury.

The hammer used in the attack was presented in court as evidence, and Sadau urged the court to ensure justice by compensating the victim for her injuries.

Usman pleaded guilty to the charges of assault and causing harm, expressing remorse for his actions.
