The Danish royal family marked a significant milestone on Tuesday, as King Frederik celebrated the first anniversary of his reign.
To commemorate the occasion, the palace shared a touching behind-the-scenes video from Frederik’s accession day on January 14, 2024, capturing the new monarch in an emotional moment as he prepared to be officially proclaimed King on the balcony of Christiansborg Palace.
In the video, Frederik, dressed in military uniform, is warmly embraced by his younger brother, Prince Joachim, as he enters the Throne Room with his wife, Queen Mary, and their four children.
Crown Prince Christian, 19, who became heir to the Danish throne after his father’s accession, is seen offering his father a supportive pat on the shoulder as Frederik wipes away tears.
The moment becomes even more heartwarming as Crown Prince Christian and his sister, Princess Isabella, 17, are seen blowing kisses and softly whispering “We love you” in English to their father, who is preparing to step out onto the balcony to greet the cheering crowd in Copenhagen.

New images of King Frederik were also released to mark the anniversary, showing him donning his Navy gala jacket, complete with a red leather and gold braided belt, and white gloves.
Reflecting on the emotional day, Frederik shared his thoughts: “Seriousness. Concentration. A smile on my face. It was all in play this time a year ago when I was getting ready for the proclamation.
Taking over for my mother without having to say goodbye at the same time was and is a privilege of the greatest. January 14, 2024, was an emotional and unforgettable day from start to finish.”
