A woman has shared a letter her grandfather wrote in 1984 to the family of his cousin’s estranged husband, following their separation due to physical abuse.
The letter was shared on X in response to a discussion about women staying in abusive marriages because they fear their families won’t take them back.
Some users shared stories of women being told before marriage that they could never leave their husband’s home under any circumstances.
In contrast, the woman revealed that her grandfather held a different view. She shared the letter in which her grandfather addressed the abusive husband’s family, stating that their son was unworthy of his cousin and that no amount of pleading would change that.
The letter also instructed the family to care for the two children the cousin had with her abusive husband until her family decided to retrieve them.
It concluded with a warning for the husband’s family to tell him never to contact his cousin again or acknowledge her existence.
