A man who recently relocated his family from the United States to Pakistan has admitted to fatally shooting his teenage daughter in what authorities describe as an “honor killing” after she allegedly refused to stop posting videos on TikTok that he deemed inappropriate, police reported on Thursday, January 30.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 20, in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, according to local police chief Babar Baloch.
Initially, the father of the 15-year-old girl claimed an unidentified gunman was responsible for her death. However, after being taken into custody for questioning, he confessed to the crime, authorities said.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have also arrested the man’s brother-in-law in connection with the killing. Both men had reportedly objected to the girl sharing what they considered “objectionable” content on TikTok, a platform with approximately 54 million users in Pakistan.
Honor killings remain a persistent issue in Pakistan, where women are sometimes murdered by relatives for actions perceived as defying cultural traditions, including social media activity or choosing their own marriage partner.
