Stephen Fry, 67, expressed his delight at being knighted in the King’s New Year Honours list on Monday, calling the recognition both “startling” and “enchanting.”
However, the honour he treasures most is his marriage to fellow comedian, actor, and writer Elliott Spencer.
How They Met and Married
Stephen and Elliott first crossed paths in 2012 and tied the knot in 2015 at a register office in Dereham, Norfolk. Announcing their marriage on X (formerly Twitter), the former QI host wrote: “Gosh. @ElliottGSpencer and I go into a room as two people, sign a book and leave as one. Amazing.”
Who Is Elliott Spencer?
Born in Southampton in 1987, Elliott is nearly 30 years younger than Stephen. He is best known for his stand-up comedy and has appeared on various TV and radio programs.
Beyond his career, Elliott is passionate about photography, music, and travel, which he shares with Stephen. The couple has embarked on numerous adventures together, including trips to Arizona and Florence.
Their Relationship and Age Gap
While the couple keeps much of their relationship private, they have addressed their age difference.
Speaking at the 2015 BAFTAs, Elliott said: “I don’t care what people think. Stephen is the love of my life, the light of my life. We laugh all the time. Humour is the binding thing in our life. I think that’s what brought us together.”
Stephen echoed these sentiments during an appearance on Desert Island Discs, calling Elliott “the great love of his life.” He chose Ella Fitzgerald’s Do I Love You? as one of his tracks, describing it as “a simple, beautiful expression of love.”
Thoughts on Starting a Family
The couple has discussed the possibility of having children but hasn’t pursued it seriously.
Stephen shared with The Mirror: “Elliott and I, we talked about it a bit, but we never talked about it to the extent of, ‘Right, so, we’re going to a clinic tomorrow to talk this through with some expert.’ We never quite got that far. It was always, ‘Yeah, it would be nice, wouldn’t it?’”
