Michael Cohen, a former lawyer for President-elect Donald Trump, has made a public plea to outgoing President Joe Biden for a presidential pardon, expressing concerns that Trump may seek to imprison him upon returning to the White House.
Cohen, who testified against Trump in the hush money case that led to Trump’s conviction on 34 felony counts last year, fears retribution from the incoming administration.
Cohen himself was previously convicted for his involvement in the $130,000 payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election.
As Trump prepares to assume office in a week, Cohen has urged Biden to grant him a pardon similar to the one the president recently gave to his son, Hunter Biden.
“I’ve submitted an application for a presidential pardon because I believe Joe Biden owes me the same consideration he gave his son,” Cohen stated.
He added, “I would expect the same full and unconditional pardon Biden granted his son to be extended to me and others on Trump’s ‘enemies list,’ whether they request it or not. Solitary confinement, where I spent 51 days, is unbearable.”
Cohen’s appeal underscores his concerns about potential political retaliation and his hope for clemency before Biden leaves office.
