Cross River State: Catholic Priest Narrowly Escapes Death As Car Explodes

Rev. Fr. Michael Abang Obi, a Catholic priest, narrowly avoided death when his car exploded in Ogoja Local Government Area, Cross River State.

Rev. Obi, who serves as the Administrator of St. Joseph de Worker Parish in Bansara and Vicar for Priests in the Catholic Diocese of Ogoja, was unharmed in the terrifying incident.

The explosion occurred on New Year’s Eve after Rev. Obi had stopped to give directions to a Reverend Sister and her group.

Recalling the close call, Rev. Obi explained that he had just finished attending a wedding at a nearby parish and was returning to his own parish.

Upon arriving, he saw the Reverend Sister and her group gathering firewood in the school compound. He stopped to offer directions to help them find better firewood.

As he returned to his car and was about to drive off, the vehicle suddenly exploded. He credited his survival to the fact that the door was open, allowing him to escape the blast.

“I’m safe. Thanks be to God,” Rev. Obi said, expressing gratitude for his miraculous escape.
