Two brothers in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, have been arrested for fatally stabbing a man over his long-term relationship with their widowed mother, police in India reported.
According to The Times of India, the accused, Sanjay (27) and Jayesh Thakor (23), harbored deep resentment toward 45-year-old Ratanji Thakor, who had been in a relationship with their mother for over 15 years. They believed the affair dishonored their late father’s memory and brought shame to their family.
The police report, filed by the victim’s son, Ajay, stated that the brothers had previously confronted Ratanji and even sought intervention from community elders, but their attempts to resolve the matter peacefully failed.
“Despite repeated warnings to stay away from their mother, the victim continued the relationship,” said investigating officer Unnati Patel.
On Sunday, armed with a knife and a rod, the brothers attacked Ratanji Thakor and his associate, Jikuji Parmar, while they were working on a house construction in the village. Witnesses reported that the attackers even threw the victim’s intestines in front of horrified onlookers.
The police report further stated that the brothers brandished their bloodied weapons to deter laborers and Ratanji’s associate, who fled the scene on a motorcycle.
Authorities tracked the suspects using their mobile phone locations and arrested them later the same day.
Sanjay and Jayesh Thakor have been charged with murder and abetment.
