Anambra State: Father Who Scorched Wife To Death Seeks Forgiveness From Children

A man who brutally burned his wife to death in Anambra State has publicly apologized to his five sons for his horrific actions.

Obiozor Sunday Nwaka, a welder, accused his wife, Blessing Chioma Nwaka, of infidelity, which led to a violent confrontation during which he poured petrol on her and set her ablaze.

The tragic incident occurred on January 21, 2025, in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area.

The deceased, who was reported to be the primary provider for her family, was seen in a viral social media clip desperately trying to escape while suffering from severe burns on her torso and other parts of her body. She succumbed to her injuries the following morning in a nearby hospital.

During a meeting with State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, the suspect claimed that he never intended to kill his wife and acted out of rage when he learned he had no information about her whereabouts the prior day.

In tears, Mr. Nwaka, currently in police custody, pleaded with his children for their forgiveness.

According to a statement released by the commissioner’s media aide, Chidinma Ikeanyionwu, there are conflicting reports regarding the victim’s experience with domestic violence. While the victim’s family and church members asserted that she had never complained about abuse, the statement indicated that the suspect had a known history of extreme violence.

“One of her friends, who wishes to remain anonymous, revealed that the deceased confided in her about the man’s violent tendencies, noting that this was not the first time he attempted to harm her,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that justice is served in this matter.

Through Mrs. Obinabo, the state government condemned the violent act and confirmed that the administration of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo will ensure that the suspect faces the full consequences of the law.
