The United States House of Representatives has passed a bill prohibiting transgender men from competing in men’s sports and transgender women from participating in women’s sports.
This stance was emphasized by Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“Today is a great day in America because House Republicans just passed @RepGregSteube’s Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, ensuring men cannot compete in women’s sports,” Johnson wrote. “Men are men, women are women, and men cannot become women. It’s just that simple.”
This legislative move echoes former President Donald Trump’s policy, which previously banned transgender individuals from serving in the U.S. military. On July 26, 2017, Trump announced the military ban via a series of tweets. However, the policy was later overturned by President Joe Biden’s administration.
While the position of incoming President Donald Trump on this issue remains uncertain, there is speculation that he might reintroduce a ban on transgender individuals serving in the military upon taking office.
