Francisco San Martin, known for his role as Dario Hernandez on Days of Our Lives, has passed away at the age of 39.
The Spanish actor was found dead at his home in Los Angeles on Thursday, January 16, with police reports suggesting he died by suicide, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office, as confirmed by Hollywood LA News.
San Martin first appeared on Days of Our Lives in 2011 as a petty thief, later revealed to be investigating a cold case in Salem. His character eventually moved to Argentina for work, and the role was taken over by Jordi Vilasuso from 2016-17.
In addition to his role on Days of Our Lives, Francisco appeared on The Bold and the Beautiful in 2017 as groundskeeper Mateo. He also had a small role in Steven Soderbergh’s Behind The Candelabra, starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon.
His former Days of Our Lives co-star, Camila Banus, who portrayed his sister Gabi, shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, writing, “Pepe, what can I say but I love you and rest in peace, my friend. Love you mucho mucho mucho; I wish I had told you more.”
Francisco was born in Mallorca, Spain, and raised in Montana. He began his acting career in children’s theatre in the U.S. before moving back to Spain as a teenager, where he worked as a model and took acting classes.
