Israeli airstrikes on Gaza over the course of two days, Thursday and Friday, December 3, resulted in the deaths of at least 150 people.
This escalation comes as Israel continues its military campaign against Hamas, while still negotiating a ceasefire and the release of hostages.
As discussions continue in Qatar, senior Hamas official Basem Naim expressed the group’s commitment to reaching a ceasefire agreement, which includes the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the return of the population to their homes.
In addition, the ongoing conflict has severely impacted Gaza’s health sector. According to Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHRI), the destruction of the health system in northern Gaza would be complete if Israel forces the closure of the last two remaining operational medical centers: Indonesian Hospital and al-Awda Hospital.
PHRI also condemned Israel’s destruction of civilian infrastructure and displacement of Palestinians, calling it a violation of international law and urging international intervention to stop what they term as ethnic cleansing.
The United Nations has reported 136 Israeli attacks on 27 health facilities in Gaza, resulting in significant loss of life and infrastructure damage.
Human rights organizations, such as Amnesty International, have condemned Israel’s actions, calling the detention of Kamal Adwan Hospital’s director a reflection of the broader “genocidal intent” in targeting Gaza’s healthcare sector.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s military actions in Gaza have resulted in at least 45,658 Palestinian deaths and over 108,000 injuries. Meanwhile, at least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the initial Hamas-led attacks, with more than 200 taken captives.
