Speaking in support of Addiction Awareness Week, led by Action on Addiction, Kate, who is also patron of the Forward Trust—a charity supporting those with alcohol and drug addictions—expressed her ongoing commitment to the cause.
In her message, the mother-of-three said: “As Patron of the Forward Trust, I am proud to support Addiction Awareness Week once again. It’s encouraging to see progress being made in ending the stigma surrounding addiction. For far too long, many have suffered in silence, burdened with shame and guilt, despite their vulnerability.”
She continued: “Those struggling with addiction are individuals with their own stories, often misunderstood or unseen. It’s not our place to judge but to offer support, understanding, and compassion. Simple acts of kindness, like lending a listening ear or offering a shoulder to cry on, are essential in breaking down the barriers of misunderstanding.”
Kate emphasized that addiction is not a choice but a serious mental health condition affecting anyone. “By acting with empathy and humility, we can make a real difference in supporting those in need,” she added.
The royal concluded: “Many charities are working tirelessly to help individuals and families through their most challenging times, but they can’t do it alone. We all have a role to play in changing the way we view and support those coping with addiction, as recovery is possible.”
Having marked this important week in the past, Kate once again expressed her gratitude to the charities involved in raising awareness about the impact of addiction.
After a period away from the public eye due to preventive chemotherapy, Kate has gradually returned to her royal duties.
Her next public appearance will be during the Emir of Qatar’s state visit, where she and Prince William will greet the royal guests on behalf of King Charles and participate in a carriage procession to Buckingham Palace. However, they will not be attending the State Banquet that evening.
