Netflix has confirmed the return of Black Doves for a second season, following the success of its first. The six-part spy thriller, set during Christmas, stars Keira Knightley as Helen Webb, a rebellious spy who leaks her politician husband’s secrets to her agency.

Since its release earlier this month, Black Doves has garnered widespread praise and has even made its way into the televisions at Kensington Palace. During a gathering with families at a party for the 1st Battalion Mercian Regiment in Wiltshire, Prince William shared that he and Princess Kate had been enjoying the show together over the holiday season.

Fans and royals alike will be thrilled to learn that the show is returning for a second season. Netflix made the announcement via Instagram, posting a short clip of Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw, who play their characters at a bar. In the promo, the pair share a hug, with Keira whispering, “Merry Christmas,” to which Ben replies, “Hello, darling.”

Keira then breaks the fourth wall, raising a glass of champagne to toast the new season and saying, “Here’s to Black Doves season one.” Ben follows, saying, “Don’t forget season two, darling,” before the duo pulls two golden bullets from red envelopes and drops them into their champagne glasses.

Though set during Christmas, Black Doves offers a darker twist compared to Keira’s classic holiday film Love Actually. Described as the new Die Hard by viewers, the series takes a gripping turn when Helen’s secret lover, Jason (played by Andrew Koji), is assassinated. Helen must then go under the watch of retired spy Sam (Ben Whishaw), leading her to uncover a conspiracy linking the London underworld to a global geopolitical crisis.

Keira joked in an interview with The Guardian, saying, “I’m planning to completely ruin the festivities with this one. If you’re feeling angry with your relatives and want to see two possible psychopaths killing lots of people at Christmas, this is the show to go for.”

Black Doves received a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes just one day after its release. While fans eagerly await more news, Netflix has yet to confirm the release date for season two.
