A man, Adebayo Kola, and his girlfriend, Bamidele Funmilayo, have been brought before an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting Kola’s baby mama, Temiosoro Kehinde.
The accused faced a three-count charge of assault, breach of peace, and emotional abuse before Magistrate O.I. Lebi.
The prosecution stated that the incident occurred on November 18, 2023, at Owe Akala Street, Oke Aro, in Akure, Ondo State.
Prosecutor Augustine Omhenimhen told the court that the defendants physically attacked Kehinde, engaged in behavior that could disturb public peace, and subjected her to verbal insults.
The prosecutor further described their actions as degrading and emotionally harmful.
The charges against them violated Sections 351, 249(D), and 15(1) of the Ondo State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2021.
Both defendants denied the charges and pleaded not guilty.
Requesting an adjournment, Omhenimhen informed the court that three witnesses would be called to testify.
Defense counsel, Lawrence Onu, did not oppose the adjournment but requested that the defendants be granted bail on reasonable terms.
Magistrate Lebi set the defendants’ bail at N400,000 each, with two sureties of equal value. The case was adjourned to December 9, 2024, for trial.
