Man Who Escape From Nigerian Prison Captured In Dominican Republic, Set For Extradition To Haiti

The Human Trafficking and Smuggling Investigation Department of DICRIM in the Dominican Republic has arrested Nigerian national IK Egbor, who was wanted by Haitian authorities.

According to a report by Dominican Today on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, Egbor was apprehended while attempting to obtain a travel document in the Dominican Republic, claiming he had lost his identification. Migration records, however, revealed that he had no legal entry into the country.

Haitian authorities confirmed that Egbor escaped from prison on March 3, 2024, during a mass breakout.

He had previously been detained in 2022 at Toussaint Louverture International Airport for allegedly smuggling drugs in his abdomen while attempting to travel to Paris.

Following an international alert and a joint investigation with the General Directorate of Migration, Egbor was identified and taken into custody. He is now set to be extradited to Haiti’s Bureau Lutte Trafic Stupéfiant (BLTS/DCPJ) to face legal proceedings.
