Ghanaian actor, entrepreneur, and politician John Dumelo has made waves with his announcement of a potential historic win in the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary race.
Representing the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dumelo’s anticipated victory would end a 24-year streak of dominance by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the constituency.
“With 13 polling stations to go, I can confidently say we have won the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat for the first time in 24 years,” Dumelo stated in an Instagram post on Sunday, December 8, 2024, expressing confidence ahead of the official results.
The election has been a closely fought battle between Dumelo and the incumbent, Hon. Lydia Alhassan of the NPP.
Known as a stronghold for the ruling party, the constituency witnessed a dynamic campaign from Dumelo, who used innovative outreach strategies to engage younger voters and a broad demographic.
Social media has since been flooded with congratulatory messages from NDC supporters and political enthusiasts, celebrating what they see as a major shift in the region’s political landscape.
