A 40-year-old man, Joshua Nwafor, has been accused of killing his wife, Charity Nwafor, over a disagreement about a tuber of yam in Ebonyi State.
The tragic incident took place on December 16, 2024, in Nsokkara, Ezza South Local Government Area, where the couple resided. Joshua was from the local community, while Charity was from Awkuzu in Onicha Local Government Area.
The couple, married for 17 years and with children, reportedly had a disagreement when Joshua decided to cook yam for the family. Charity, however, expressed her preference for roasted yam instead of the cooked version. She proceeded to roast the yam, which led to a heated argument.
An eyewitness told Daily Sun that Joshua, enraged by the situation, dragged Charity into a room, locked the door, and physically assaulted her until she died.
The source emphasized the importance of leaving an abusive relationship, saying, “Life has no duplicate. No matter how long the marriage has lasted, when it becomes life-threatening, please leave fast and don’t worry about what others might say.”
The spokesperson for the Ebonyi State Police Command, DSP Joshua Ukandu, condemned the incident and assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted. “Rest assured, the command will investigate and charge anyone found responsible,” he stated.
