Bernie Littman, 100, and Marjorie Fiterman, 102, have been officially recognized as the world’s oldest newlyweds, setting a Guinness World Record. The couple, who found love at a senior living facility, have a combined age of 202 years.

Both Marjorie and Bernie had each been married for over 60 years to their first spouses. However, after their respective partners passed away, they moved into the same floor of a Philadelphia senior living community, where they never expected to find new love. The two reportedly bonded over shared meals and participation in the community’s activities.

Bernie attributes his long life and happiness to reading and staying informed, while Marjorie credits hers to the consumption of buttermilk.

Guinness World Records announced on December 3 that Bernie and Marjorie tied the knot on May 19 after a nine-year relationship, making them the oldest couple to marry, with a combined age of 202 years and 271 days.

The couple’s romance began after they met at a costume party on their floor, and their first date coincided with the birth of one of Bernie’s great-granddaughters. Interestingly, they could have crossed paths years earlier while attending the University of Pennsylvania at the same time, but their different fields of study—Bernie as an engineer and Marjorie as a teacher—meant they never met.

The wedding took place at the same senior living facility where they first met. Four generations of Bernie’s family attended, holding up a chuppah, a traditional Jewish wedding canopy, while Bernie and Marjorie were escorted to the altar in wheelchairs.

The wedding was officiated by Adam Wohlberg, who shared that, unlike typical marriage advice, he didn’t feel the need to offer the usual counsel. Instead, he said that Bernie and Marjorie had reached a point in their relationship where becoming husband and wife felt like the natural next step.

He added, “You have both already amassed a lifetime of wisdom and experience, and what you love about each other is not about to change.”
