Dr. Aishatu Bala Mohammed, the wife of the Bauchi State governor, has revealed a shocking case of incest and s*xual abuse involving a father who impregnated his daughter twice.
During a press briefing focused on the state government’s initiatives to combat s*xual and gender-based violence, Dr. Aishatu recounted the harrowing story of a daughter who was reunited with her father after being separated at a young age following her mother’s death.
She detailed how the father repeatedly molested his daughter, leading to two pregnancies. The situation came to light when the case was reported to the Hisbah Board, which subsequently led to the father’s arrest and a seven-year prison sentence.
According to Dr. Aishatu, the girl’s mother had initially taken custody of her after separating from the father.
However, after enduring bullying from peers about not having a father, the daughter persuaded her mother to take her to him. The mother acquiesced, and the father proposed remarrying her. After the mother agreed and left her daughter with him, the father began his abusive behavior.
The daughter reported the abuse to her mother, who confronted the father. Following the confrontation, both the mother and daughter were found to be pregnant and sought medical assistance.
Tragically, shortly after giving birth, the mother suffered a fatal stroke. After her death, the mother’s family rejected the daughter and took custody of her newborn sibling, forcing her to return to her abusive father.
Dr. Aishatu further explained that while the father married another woman, the abuse continued. When the daughter confided in her stepmother about the situation, the stepmother confronted the father, who confessed to the abuse.
Although the stepmother left him, the father’s maltreatment persisted, culminating in another pregnancy. After the birth of her second child, neighbors alerted the Hisbah Board of Kano, leading to the father’s arrest.
The daughter is now under the care of the Bauchi State government, which provides her with educational support, a bank account, and a stipend.
Additionally, Dr. Aishatu mentioned another distressing case involving a mother who coerced her daughter into prostitution using charms to ensure her submission. The state action committee has since taken custody of this victim and is offering her care and assistance.
Emphasizing the urgent need to tackle the rising incidents of s*xual abuse and assault in the state, Dr. Aishatu pledged to work diligently in support of victims and to hold offenders accountable.
