“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time, she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family,” Jolie’s attorney, James Simon, stated to Page Six.
“This is just one part of a long, ongoing process that began eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted but relieved this chapter is over,” he added.
The former couple first crossed paths while filming the 2005 action-comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith. At the time, Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston, who filed for divorce later that year, while Jolie was raising her adopted son, Maddox, whom she had welcomed from Cambodia in 2002.
In 2005, Pitt joined Jolie in Ethiopia to adopt daughter Zahara, and by the following year, he had legally adopted both Maddox and Zahara. Shortly after, the couple welcomed their biological daughter, Shiloh, in 2006.
Their family expanded further with the adoption of son Pax from Vietnam in 2007, followed by the birth of twins Knox and Vivienne in 2008. During this time, they also purchased Château Miraval in France and launched Miraval Wines.
The couple announced their engagement in April 2012 and tied the knot at their French estate in August 2014. However, their marriage unraveled just two years later, with Jolie filing for divorce in September 2016, shortly after their second wedding anniversary.
Details of their tumultuous relationship came to light in 2022, including allegations of an incident aboard a private plane in 2016.
Pitt, who is now sober, was accused of physically harming one of their children, grabbing Jolie by the head, and pouring alcohol on her and the kids. Pitt has consistently denied these allegations and was cleared of wrongdoing by both the FBI and the Department of Children and Family Services.
Although a judge declared them legally single in April 2019, the pair continued to battle over custody arrangements and financial assets.
In May 2021, Pitt was awarded joint custody, but the decision was later overturned due to a conflict of interest involving the presiding judge.
The financial disputes included Jolie’s sale of her 50% stake in Miraval Wines to Tenute del Mondo, part of the Stoli Group, in October 2021. Pitt subsequently sued her in early 2022, alleging she violated their agreement and tarnished the business’s reputation. Jolie countersued later that year.
Now, after years of legal wrangling, the couple has reached a resolution, marking the end of one of Hollywood’s most high-profile splits.
