AC Milan have dismissed manager Paulo Fonseca after just six months in charge following a 1-1 draw against Roma at home on Sunday, December 29.
The Serie A club confirmed Fonseca’s departure, having appointed him in June to replace Stefano Pioli.
In a brief 32-word statement, the club said: “AC Milan announces that Paulo Fonseca has been relieved of his duties as Head Coach of the Men’s First Team. The Club extends its gratitude to Paulo for his great professionalism and wishes him the very best in his future endeavours.”
Currently, Milan is ranked 12th in the 36-team Champions League table, with two losses and four wins from their six matches.
Fonseca’s appointment in June followed Pioli’s successful tenure, which saw Milan finish second in Serie A last season and claim their first league title in 11 years in 2022.
Reports suggest that fellow Portuguese coach Sergio Conceição is set to replace Fonseca.
