A Nigerian journalist, Anastasia Odochi Ozoemana, has called on men to return their wives to their parents if they no longer wish to remain in the marriage, rather than subjecting them to domestic violence.

Anastasia shared this advice in a Facebook post on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, after a man allegedly attacked his wife with a steering lock in Aba, Abia State, causing severe injuries and fracturing her bones.

According to Anastasia, the man not only assaulted his wife but also threw her belongings out of their home.

“Earlier today, our receptionist informed me that someone with a bandaged hand wanted to see me. I was puzzled because I wasn’t expecting an accident victim,” she wrote.

“To my shock, it was a woman who revealed that her husband had struck her with a steering lock. He aimed for her head, but she used her hand to shield herself, resulting in fractured bones. If not for her quick reflex, she might have been in the mortuary by now.

“But it didn’t end there. He threw her belongings out, as shown in the attached photos. For heaven’s sake, if you no longer want a woman, why not return her to her parents intact?

“Why are some men so wicked and heartless? This is the mother of your three children! STOP GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE.”

The incident has sparked outrage and renewed calls for an end to domestic abuse.
