Kaylen Dennis, a promising young footballer and cousin of Sheffield United player Rhian Brewster, tragically passed away after collapsing on the pitch during a match. The 17-year-old was playing for Walthamstow Football Club on Wednesday, December 11, when the incident occurred.

In a heartfelt statement, Walthamstow FC confirmed the devastating news: “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Kaylen Dennis during one of our U23 matches. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family, friends, teammates, and everyone who knew him.”

Kaylen, described as an “incredible talent” by his coaches, had been a part of the football community from a young age. His youth team, Ryan FC, shared their grief, saying, “Kaylen joined us at 13, and we watched him grow into senior football with our partner club, Walthamstow FC. His parents have always been incredibly supportive, and our thoughts are with them and their family during this difficult time.”

Rhian Brewster honored his cousin in a match against Millwall, dedicating his goal to Kaylen. In an emotional interview with BBC Radio Sheffield, Brewster said: “I want to dedicate that goal to my younger cousin. He passed away earlier today before the game. It’s a very tough time for the family, but I played for him today, and I was very happy to score a goal for him.”

Coach Scott Chickelday also paid tribute, saying, “Heartbreaking to hear about Kaylen Dennis, an incredibly talented young footballer and a wonderful person. God bless Kaylen—fly high, champ.”

Walthamstow Reserves DC added, “Kaylen was not only a gifted footballer but also a kind and blessed young man with a bright future. Our football family will stand by his family during this difficult time. Rest in perfect peace, Kaylen Dennis.”

The cause of Kaylen’s death has not yet been determined. His passing has left the football community in mourning, remembering a young star whose potential was cut tragically short.
