Francis Ng’ang’a, a Kenyan businessman, shared the tragic story of his wife, Lucy Wambui, who passed away following cosmetic surgery at a clinic in Nairobi.
Lucy experienced complications from the procedure and was later admitted to a city hospital, where she received treatment but succumbed to her condition four days later.
A postmortem report indicated that Wambui suffered from chest pains and difficulty breathing on the second day after undergoing abdominal fat liposuction.
Speaking to Citizen TV from his home, the grieving husband revealed that his wife was left with perforated intestines after the surgery performed at the Body by Design clinic.
He held the clinic responsible for her death, explaining that they sent her home and closed the facility shortly thereafter.
“I asked them why my wife was experiencing unusual symptoms, and they assured me it was part of the healing process. When they realized she was critically ill, they advised her to go home and shut down the clinic,” Ng’ang’a stated.
He recounted how attempts to seek further treatment for his wife were in vain, as the clinic had been closed and access was denied.
“Ten minutes after we got home, her condition worsened. When we returned to the clinic, we found it locked, with only security guards present,” he added.
Ng’ang’a described a heartbreaking conversation with his wife on the morning of October 26, unaware it would be their last exchange.
“She called me to say she was feeling very unwell. She told me that if she didn’t make it, I should take care of our children as we would if we were together,” he recalled.
In response to her death, the government announced the closure of the clinic while investigations are conducted.
On November 2, the Ministry of Health released a statement indicating that the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council had initiated a thorough investigation into the clinic’s practices and standards.
