A viral video of the incident shows the robber attacking another domestic worker while the house help observed.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed that the victim is a 20-year-old Somali woman named Hakimo Muhidin, who fortunately survived the assault.
Kanja stated that a report was filed at the Starehe police station, prompting an investigation. He assured the public that police are pursuing leads on the whereabouts of the suspects to ensure justice is served.
The main suspect, captured on CCTV, gained entry into the building using a hammer.
Police revealed that the assailant, believed to be a Ugandan national, accessed the sixth floor with the assistance of the house help, identified as Everlyne, who is also from Uganda.
Once inside, the assailant brutally attacked Muhidin with Everlyne’s help. Investigators reported that numerous valuable items were stolen during the incident, including gold jewelry, an undisclosed amount of cash in both Kenyan shillings and U.S. dollars, as well as four laptops belonging to the family.
The victim suffered serious injuries, including a broken tooth and trauma to her hand, head, and legs. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) further noted that she showed signs of having been whipped, with visible marks on her back.
After receiving medical treatment, Muhidin was discharged and is currently recovering at a relative’s home, still traumatized.
Authorities are also searching for Everlyne, who had only joined the household three weeks prior to the robbery and managed to escape with the assailant.
At the time of the incident, the tenant was away with his children, while his wife was reportedly in India for medical treatment, according to police. A team of detectives has been assembled to investigate the matter further.
