Brazil’s first lady, Janja Lula da Silva, directed an expletive at Elon Musk during a G20 event over the weekend, while discussing the need for social media regulation to combat misinformation.
As she spoke on Saturday, a ship’s horn sounded, prompting her to joke, “I think it’s Elon Musk,” before adding, “I’m not afraid of you, f**k you, Elon Musk.”
Musk, the owner of the social media platform X, responded to a video of her comments by posting a laughing emoji.
In another post, he wrote, “They are going to lose the next election,” referring to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Janja Lula da Silva made her remarks at an event ahead of the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, where the world’s largest economies were set to meet.
Earlier this year, X was briefly suspended in Brazil for failing to appoint a legal representative and for disregarding the Supreme Court’s orders to block accounts spreading misinformation.
The platform was later allowed to resume operations after complying with the court’s directives.
