Nancy Mace, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, has introduced a resolution aimed at prohibiting transgender lawmakers and House employees from using facilities inconsistent with their biological s*x.

In a statement to journalists on Tuesday, November 19, Mace confirmed that her resolution is a direct response to the election of Sarah McBride, who is poised to become the first openly transgender person in Congress.

“Absolutely, I will fight against any man entering women’s restrooms, locker rooms, or changing rooms. I’ll oppose it every step of the way,” Mace asserted.

She also emphasized her intent to incorporate the resolution into the House rules package for the upcoming Congress.

McBride, 46, hailing from Delaware, was elected to the U.S. Congress in the November 5 general elections and is set to be sworn in on January 3.

In response to the controversy, McBride expressed optimism in a social media post, stating, “Every day, Americans work alongside people with different life experiences and treat them respectfully. I hope Congress can show the same kindness.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson acknowledged the situation, noting that it is unprecedented and promising that steps will be taken to address it.

“We welcome all duly elected members with open arms,” Johnson said. “It’s our responsibility to treat everyone with dignity and respect. While this is a new issue for Congress, we will approach it thoughtfully, with member consensus, and ensure accommodations are made for everyone involved.”
