Kemi Badenoch has called for Keir Starmer and Foreign Secretary David Lammy to apologize to Donald Trump following remarks made by Labour figures, accusing them of attempting to undermine the president-elect.
In her first appearance at Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs), the new Conservative leader criticized Sir Keir, Lammy, and other senior Labour figures for their harsh comments about Trump. She insisted that Sir Keir should extend an invitation to Trump to visit the UK and address both Houses of Parliament.
Her comments came after the Prime Minister opened the session by congratulating Trump, stating, “Having had dinner with president-elect Trump just a few weeks ago, I look forward to working with him in the years to come.”
Badenoch pointed to remarks such as Lammy’s description of Trump as a “Neo-Nazi sympathiser” and questioned whether Labour leaders had apologized to Trump during their recent dinner in New York. She insisted that they should do so.
Sir Keir is facing growing challenges after Trump’s surprising US election victory, with tensions rising over Labour supporters’ involvement in the campaign for the Democratic contender.
The Prime Minister has also had multiple public clashes with tech billionaire Elon Musk, who is expected to play a significant role in a potential Trump administration.
When Trump was president, Labour MPs, including Lammy, signed an early-day motion calling for Trump to be denied the honor of addressing both Houses of Parliament during a state visit.
