The seven-time Super Bowl champion, who shares a 17-year-old son, Jack, with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan, as well as younger children Benjamin and Vivian with his ex-wife Gisele, spoke candidly about his parental shortcomings during the 2024 Fortune Global Forum in New York City.
Reflecting on the challenges of parenthood, Brady said, “All the parents in the room know that being a parent is probably the hardest job we have. And we screw up a lot.”
“I’ve screwed up a lot as a parent,” he added. “I don’t want to come across as some sort of expert in parenting because I’m certainly not that.”
The legendary quarterback explained his approach to fatherhood, emphasizing the importance of being “dependable and consistent” for his children. He also expressed his unwavering support for their pursuits, admitting that “it sucks to be Tom Brady’s son” at times.
He went on to describe how his own parents supported him, even when he was a backup quarterback on his high school freshman team. “They never said, ‘Man, don’t do that. It’s going to be too hard. Let’s think about another backup plan,'” he recalled. “They kind of said, ‘You know what? Go for it.’ And that’s probably my parenting style.”
Brady’s remarks came just two weeks after Bündchen revealed that she is pregnant with her boyfriend, Jiu-Jitsu instructor Joaquim Valente. The couple began dating shortly after Brady and Bündchen’s divorce was finalized in October 2022.
