At their Windsor residence, Adelaide Cottage, Prince William and Princess Kate have made a deliberate choice not to employ a particular type of staff member.
According to royal biographer Robert Hardman in his book New King, New Court, the couple has decided against having a royal butler in their home.
Hardman explains, “The couple chose not to increase the staff numbers at Adelaide Cottage, partly due to limited space. Reports about the Prince hiring a valet were dismissed.
“While their team at Kensington Palace includes a ‘yeoman’—a versatile attendant handling tasks like luggage and uniforms—there is no ‘gentleman’s gentleman’ in their household. And certainly no butler,” adds a source. “It’s very much William and Kate at home with the kids.”
Additionally, Prince William recently shared another rule they uphold in their family home, emphasizing climate consciousness.
In an interview with the BBC ahead of the Earthshot Prize awards in Cape Town, William spoke about encouraging their children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—to adopt eco-friendly habits.
“Every family tries to do what they can to help the environment,” he said. “We focus on recycling, minimizing water usage, and turning off lights when leaving a room. It’s all about making sensible choices, and I believe most families have these conversations. You just try to do what you can.”
Adelaide Cottage was recently featured in a video update from Kate in September, where she spoke about her recovery journey following cancer treatment. The clip offered a rare and intimate glimpse into their family life, showcasing their beautiful royal home like never before.
