Flight 2494, scheduled to fly to Indianapolis, was hit on the right side of the aircraft just below the flight deck. The crew quickly returned the plane to the gate, and passengers disembarked safely.
No injuries were reported, and the plane was taken out of service for further inspection.
Dallas police arrived at the scene around 9:50 p.m. and have launched an investigation. Southwest Airlines assured that passenger safety remains their top priority.
In a related incident, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has imposed a 30-day ban on U.S. airlines flying to Haiti due to a series of gunfire incidents targeting aircraft at Port-au-Prince’s Toussaint Louverture International Airport.
Earlier this week, a Spirit Airlines flight was struck by multiple bullets while attempting to land, injuring a flight attendant. The plane was diverted to the Dominican Republic.
Similar incidents involving American Airlines and JetBlue flights followed, with bullet holes discovered during post-flight inspections.
The FAA has warned that gang-related shootings near the airport are increasingly threatening aviation safety.
