A 15-year-old boy in Russia has allegedly axed his mother to death after she confiscated his tablet to make him focus on his homework, according to Russian authorities.
The teenager, whose identity has not been released, reportedly struck his mother, Alexandra Gabbasova, 48, multiple times while she was in bed at their home near Moscow.
He then dismembered her body, nailed her bedroom door shut, and calmly went to a local shop in the village of Krasnaya Storozhka to buy chocolate.
The boy, who had been playing Minecraft before the incident, later reported himself to the police in Sergiev Posad, approximately 46 miles northeast of Moscow.
Gabbasova, an accountant at a furniture factory, had grown concerned about her son’s excessive gaming, as he was reportedly spending up to 12 hours a day playing online and neglecting his schoolwork.
According to the news outlet Mash, she confronted him after discovering he had skipped his homework while on sick leave from school, confiscating his phone, tablet, and all charging cables.
In response, the teenager reportedly became enraged, grabbed an axe, and attacked his mother, striking her randomly. He later confessed to the police, telling them he had killed her.
Authorities stated that she had been dead for about four hours before they arrived at the scene. After the attack, the boy played games, searched online for the nearest police station, and went to report the crime.
The 15-year-old is currently in custody. His teachers described him as a “quiet” student who “studied normally.”
