Queen Camilla has canceled all her royal engagements for the week due to a chest infection, Buckingham Palace has announced. The 77-year-old Queen, who recently returned from a busy tour of Australia and Samoa, is currently resting at home under medical advice.

A Palace spokesperson shared on Tuesday, “Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest.

“With regret, Her Majesty has had to withdraw from her engagements this week, but she hopes to recover in time for this weekend’s Remembrance events. She apologizes to those who may be inconvenienced.”

In her absence, the Duchess of Gloucester will attend the Field of Remembrance ceremony at Westminster Abbey on Thursday, and Camilla will also miss a Buckingham Palace reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes, hosted by the King.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer posted well wishes, stating, “On behalf of the whole country, I wish Her Majesty The Queen a speedy recovery.”

The Queen’s illness follows a recent spa break in India, which the King and Queen took to ease their return journey from their ten-day tour.

According to a palace official, the tour “lifted [the King’s] spirits, his mood, and his recovery,” noting the positive impact of having Camilla by his side.

King Charles paused his cancer treatment for the long-haul trip, though more overseas visits are planned next year as he continues managing the illness.
