Prince William recently shared an update on the future roles of his three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, emphasizing that their education currently takes precedence over public duties.
In an interview with UK media during his visit to South Africa for the Earthshot Prize Awards, William reflected on a challenging year marked by his wife Catherine’s and father King Charles’ cancer battles.
When asked about the possibility of his children taking on more public engagements in 2025, he reiterated the importance of school for them at this stage.
“Their education is the top priority right now,” William said. “Family-wise, it may be a little while before they step into more public roles, but we hope to see Catherine engaging in more activities next year, with some new trips planned.”
The young Waleses have been visible at significant royal events, including Trooping the Colour, King Charles’ coronation, and various sporting events like Wimbledon and the Euros. However, Prince William emphasized that their primary focus remains on their studies for the time being.
Discussing his vision for the future of the monarchy, William spoke about redefining his role and bringing a fresh approach. “I’m aiming to make a difference for my generation, perhaps with a smaller ‘r’ in the royal,” he explained.
He highlighted the importance of impact-driven philanthropy, collaboration, and empathetic leadership as central to his work.
While Kensington Palace has positioned him as an emerging global statesman, evident in his audience with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, William stressed his commitment to making a tangible difference through initiatives under the Royal Foundation.
He cited projects like the Earthshot Prize and Homewards as examples of efforts focused on driving change.
“It’s about making an impact, collaborating, and helping others,” William added. “Empathy is key to what I do. It’s about improving people’s lives and offering more empathetic leadership. Catherine and I are dedicated to delivering positive change, and everything we work on revolves around those core values.”
