Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a joint appearance in a video message for the Global Ministerial Conference on Violence Against Children.

In the message, Harry addressed the importance of the conference, saying: “The first-ever Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children comes at a crucial time and, quite frankly, should not be necessary.

“But here we are, at a crossroads, where the urgency to reassess and redefine our approach to protecting children is more evident than ever. While the need has always been clear, it is now time to translate that awareness into meaningful action.”

Meghan then spoke, highlighting the realities of today’s connected world: “My husband and I recognize that today’s reality, marked by greater connectivity and advanced technology, has many positives but also forces us to better understand how digital violence against children manifests in this age.

At the Archewell Foundation, we engage with young people, families, and experts worldwide, learning how every aspect of a child’s life—from their livelihood to their physical and mental wellbeing—operates within an online economy that can shape and misshape our connections.”

Harry and Meghan founded the Parents Network

Harry continued, discussing the challenges posed by digital platforms: “While the online world can help develop strategies to protect children from violence, it also introduces new risks, with individuals exploiting gaps in outdated legal systems that don’t account for today’s digital realities. We know that supporting parents is essential in reducing digital violence against children.

“That’s why earlier this year, we launched the Parents Network, a support system for families dealing with online harm. Through trauma-informed practices, we help parents come together to form strong bonds and offer healing support through community, with the ultimate goal of prioritizing safety at the source.”

Meghan added: “Parents from the Parents Network are sharing their personal stories about their families’ experiences this week. We hope their voices and message will reaffirm this room’s commitment to addressing the reality of violence targeting children in this digital age.

“Their stories have helped us understand that as we equip parents and caregivers, we must also establish norms around the use and access to technology to prevent violence and commit to standards that prioritize children’s safety.”

Harry concluded, “Young people are calling for help. Families are desperately seeking support. They are urging us to leverage the resources in this room to confront the new reality our youth is facing.

“We look forward to the actions and outcomes of the discussions here in Colombia and are grateful for the leadership, expertise, and testimonies that will come together to address all forms of violence against the most vulnerable.”

At the conclusion of the video, Harry affectionately wrapped his arm around Meghan’s waist. For the message, Harry wore a grey suit, while Meghan looked stunning in a Ralph Lauren cashmere blazer, which she had previously worn while pregnant with their son, Prince Archie.

The issue of violence against children is especially close to the couple’s hearts. Earlier this year, they visited Colombia to raise awareness about the issue, where they were invited by Vice President Francia Marquez, who shared how deeply moved she was by the couple’s Netflix docuseries.

“I saw the Netflix series about their life, their story, and that motivated me to invite Meghan to come to our country and share her story. Her visit will undoubtedly empower many women around the world,” Marquez said.
