A Magistrates’ Court in Jos has sentenced Zih Davou, a trader, to 18 months imprisonment for stealing a he-goat from a man’s residence.
The magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, delivered the sentence on Wednesday after Davou pleaded guilty to the charges.
In the ruling, the court offered the convict an alternative to pay a fine of ₦50,000 to avoid one year of imprisonment and an additional ₦50,000 in compensation to avoid six more months behind bars.
Prosecutor Insp. Ijuptil Thiawur stated that the incident was reported on August 19 at the “B” Division police station by the complainant, Fawole Ayodeji.
According to the prosecutor, Davou broke into Ayodeji’s house and stole the goat, valued at ₦100,000. Thiawur further revealed that the convict had previously been arrested for stealing 15 measures of rice, 10 measures of fertilizer, and a bundle of zinc from the same house.
The police noted that the offence violated provisions of the Plateau Penal Code Law.
