King Charles and Princess Kate led the royal family at the Festival of Remembrance on Saturday, participating in a series of weekend events.
This marked Kate’s first public appearance since her visit to Southport, as she gradually returns to her duties following the completion of her preventative chemotherapy earlier this year. The Princess of Wales was joined by Prince William at the event.
The annual Festival of Remembrance held on the eve of Remembrance Day, serves as a solemn tribute to those who served and sacrificed their lives during World War I. However, Queen Camilla was notably absent due to a recent chest infection.
Buckingham Palace released a statement explaining her absence: “Following doctors’ guidance to ensure a full recovery from a seasonal chest infection, and to protect others from any potential risk, Her Majesty will not attend this weekend’s Remembrance events. While this is a source of great disappointment to The Queen, she will mark the occasion privately at home and hopes to resume her public duties early next week.”
On Thursday, Camilla was replaced by the Duchess of Gloucester at the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey, stepping in for the Queen during her recovery.
