Rt. Rev. Msgr. Thomas Oleghe, recognized as Nigeria’s oldest Catholic priest, has passed away at the age of 104.
The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, Gabriel Dunia, confirmed the news in a statement, announcing that Msgr. Oleghe d!ed peacefully at approximately 2:30 am on Sunday, November 24, 2024.
“With gratitude to God for a life well lived on earth, I hereby inform you of the passing of Rt. Rev. Msgr. Thomas Oleghe, the oldest Catholic priest in Nigeria, to the great beyond this morning, November 24, 2024, at approximately 2:30 am,” the statement read.
Msgr. Oleghe served in the Diocese of Auchi and was deeply respected for his faith and contributions to the Church.
His funeral has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
“May his lovely and gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Amen,” Bishop Dunia added.
