A leaked report has alleged that Olympic boxer Imane Khelif is a biological male, reigniting calls for the Algerian athlete to be stripped of her gold medal.
Khelif, who won the women’s boxing gold at the Olympics, was previously at the center of a gender eligibility controversy alongside Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting after both were allowed to compete despite failing gender tests at the previous year’s world championships.
The new report, which surfaced recently, claims Khelif has male characteristics, though its authenticity remains unclear. The report, allegedly created in 2023 by French and Algerian endocrinologists, suggests that Khelif may be a biological male.
In response to the leaked information, Piers Morgan expressed his outrage on social media, demanding that Khelif’s gold medal be revoked, writing, “Confirmation of what some of us said at the time: Khelif is a biological man. The gold medal should now be stripped and awarded to the best actual woman.”
Tennis legend Martina Navratilova also supported Morgan’s stance, posting on social media, “What we have been saying for months. For calling this person a man or at least a male, we were called all kinds of names, but most of all, the women this male took medals and wins from. Just awful.”
Khelif, who defeated Chinese boxer Yang Liu to claim the gold, has denied the allegations, insisting she is a biological female.
She previously stated, “I am fully qualified to take part in this competition. I’m a woman like any other woman. I was born a woman, I lived as a woman, and I competed as a woman—there’s no doubt about that.” She dismissed her critics, calling them “enemies of success,” and defended her victory.
The issue surrounding Khelif’s participation has sparked further debate, with figures like JK Rowling, Elon Musk, and former President Donald Trump expressing their opinions on the controversy.
