Michael Jordan has addressed a viral social media post that falsely claimed he endorsed Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential election.
On Sunday, November 3, a post on X spread the rumor that the six-time NBA champion, 61, had become the latest celebrity to support Trump for President.
The post quickly went viral, gaining thousands of likes and shares. However, Jordan’s representatives have firmly denied the claim.
“There is absolutely no truth to the claim that Michael Jordan has made an endorsement in the presidential election,” Jordan’s representatives told The Independent.
Throughout his career, Jordan has remained private about his political beliefs, as well as his personal life. As he stated during the filming of his 2020 docuseries The Last Dance, “I never thought of myself as an activist. I thought of myself as a basketball player.”
In 1990, Jordan chose not to publicly endorse Democrat Harvey Gantt during his campaign for a North Carolina Senate seat against Jesse Helms. When asked to support Gantt, Jordan famously responded, “Republicans buy sneakers, too.” Helms ultimately won the race.
