Marius Borg Høiby, the 27-year-old son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been arrested on suspicion of rape, police have confirmed.
The arrest occurred on Monday at 11:12 p.m. at a location near Skaugum, the royal estate where Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit reside. Høiby remains in police custody.
According to a police statement, the arrest is related to allegations of violating a section of the criminal code addressing sexual acts with individuals who are unconscious or otherwise unable to resist. Authorities clarified that the case involves a sexual act, not intercourse, and stated that “the victim was unable to resist the act.”
The arrest follows new evidence that surfaced during an ongoing investigation.
This marks Høiby’s third arrest. On August 4, he was detained for allegedly “psychologically and physically” assaulting a woman in her 20s, later identified as his girlfriend. He spent 30 hours in custody before being arrested again on September 15 for violating a restraining order.
Earlier this month, after eight police interviews, Høiby denied allegations of abuse made by two former girlfriends, Nora Haukland and Juliane Snekkestad, who came forward following news of his August 4 arrest. While he admitted to assaulting his current girlfriend, he rejected claims of abuse involving his former partners.
Høiby’s lawyer, Øyvind Bratlien, told Norwegian broadcaster TV2: “Marius Borg Høiby has completed eight police interviews, during which he provided detailed explanations. He acknowledges responsibility for his part in three turbulent relationships but denies guilt in the cases involving Haukland and Snekkestad.”
