A suspected thief was left unconscious after being struck by a hit-and-run vehicle in the Abule Egba area of Lagos State on Sunday.
The unidentified man allegedly broke into a residence in the early hours of Friday. When some residents spotted him, he attempted to escape. However, as he fled, he ran onto the expressway and was hit by a speeding vehicle.
Witnesses reported that the suspect was still lying near the edge of the Abule Egba bridge as of Sunday morning, showing faint signs of life with occasional leg movements.
Ganiyat Enitan, a trader with a shop near the bridge, said the man had been at the spot since the incident occurred.
She explained, “We found him here on Friday morning. We heard he was caught scaling a fence at midnight, and residents chased him. He tried to cross the road but was hit by a vehicle.”
Another local business owner, Sesan, mentioned that the man was initially lying on the bridge’s walkway but later rolled onto the main road.
“This morning, we saw him on the road, and some officials from LASTMA placed a tire behind him as a warning to prevent other vehicles from running over him,” he added.
