King Charles has reportedly cut off Prince Andrew’s finances, as revealed in an updated biography serialized by MailOnline.
According to the book Charles III: New King, New Court, The Inside Story, by royal biographer Robert Hardman, the Duke of York is “no longer a financial burden” on the King.
The report details that Charles, 75, acted “decisively” by ending Andrew’s annual allowance and ceasing to fund his private security.
Back in August, The Sun on Sunday reported that Andrew’s private security team was informed their services would no longer be required as of November. This follows the Duke, 64, losing his publicly funded police protection in 2022.
Meanwhile, Andrew has reportedly turned down an offer to relocate from Royal Lodge to nearby Frogmore Cottage. Sources indicate Charles had urged Andrew to leave Royal Lodge due to its costly upkeep, which is estimated at £500,000 per year.
The estate has reportedly faced issues like “crumbling” brickwork and damp. Andrew, however, still resides at Royal Lodge with Sarah Ferguson, his former wife, with whom he shares two daughters, Princess Beatrice, 36, and Princess Eugenie, 34.
Andrew signed a 73-year lease for Royal Lodge with the Crown Estate in 2003, making him responsible for its maintenance and necessary repairs.
Despite rumors of pressure to vacate the property, Sarah Ferguson dismissed the claims in an interview with Samara GarcÃa Mendez of ¡HOLA! TV, advising, “Don’t always believe what you read.”
Located on the 98-acre Windsor estate, Royal Lodge has been under Charles’ estate management since Queen Elizabeth II’s passing in 2022. Despite their 2008 divorce, Sarah and Andrew have continued to live in separate wings of the grand property.
Hardman’s biography, originally published earlier this year, will be released in paperback with new insights on 7 November.
