The Princess of Wales has announced the date for her much-anticipated annual Christmas carol concert and revealed the meaningful theme behind this year’s event.
The fourth Together at Christmas service will take place at Westminster Abbey on Friday, December 6, as confirmed by Kensington Palace. This year’s service will focus on the theme of “how much we need each other, especially in the most difficult times of our lives.”
Despite the challenges of the past year, including her recovery from cancer, Kate, 42, has been involved in the planning of the festive occasion.
Following her completion of chemotherapy in September, the Princess has gradually returned to her public duties, making recent appearances at the Festival of Remembrance and the Remembrance Sunday service.
Kensington Palace shared that the Princess felt especially passionate about this year’s theme, which aims to celebrate those who support others in times of need. The service will honor individuals who have shown love, kindness, and empathy, shining a spotlight on their contributions to their communities.
A statement from the Palace noted, “This year, Her Royal Highness wanted to celebrate the many people supporting those in need – individuals who have inspired, counselled, comforted, and above all else, shown that love is the greatest gift we can receive.
“The theme draws inspiration from the Christmas story, encouraging us to reflect on the experiences of others and the importance of giving and receiving empathy.”
The event will be filmed and broadcast on Christmas Eve as a special program on ITV1 and ITVX. The concert will be attended by around 1,600 guests, including members of the royal family.
Performances from Paloma Faith, Olivia Dean, and Gregory Porter will highlight the evening, and invited guests will include individuals who have supported others through personal, professional, or volunteer efforts.
Charities connected to the royal family, as well as Lord Lieutenants from across the UK, have nominated guests for the occasion. It is expected that Kate’s parents, siblings, and their spouses will be present, as they have in previous years. Additionally, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis took part in sending Christmas cards to vulnerable children last year via a special postbox outside the church.
