The late Queen Elizabeth II won hearts with her charming cameo alongside Paddington Bear during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022. Now, she’s set to make a special appearance in Paddington in Peru, hitting theaters next week.
According to Variety, the Queen’s cameo in the new Paddington film will feature a photo of her having tea with the beloved bear.
Buckingham Palace has reportedly approved the touching inclusion. Rosie Alison, the film’s co-producer, shared, “[The royal family] were actually very happy for it to happen. But we don’t like to make a big deal of it, because Paddington’s obviously a very modest fellow.”
The image will be from the memorable Jubilee sketch where the Queen shared tea with Paddington at Buckingham Palace. In the sketch, Her Majesty humorously reveals a marmalade sandwich from her handbag, telling Paddington, “I keep mine in here – for later.”
This isn’t the only time Queen Elizabeth appeared in a surprise TV sketch. In 2012, she starred in a James Bond-themed scene with Daniel Craig to open the London Olympics.
The Queen’s former press secretary, Ailsa Anderson, revealed on HELLO!’s A Right Royal Podcast that even her family was kept in the dark.
“Danny Boyle approached the Palace, and the Queen didn’t hesitate; she said yes!” Ailsa explained. “You looked at the expressions on people’s faces, like Zara and Mike Tindall, when it looked like the Queen was parachuting out of a helicopter; no one knew!”
Reflecting on these moments, Ailsa added, “It just showed how the late Queen would take chances and had an extraordinary sense of humor. Her Platinum Jubilee Paddington sketch perfectly captured that playful side and her dedication to bringing joy to the nation.”
